Museum & Aquarium Recieves $10,000 From Marine Sanctuary Foundation

The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, in Dubuque, Iowa, received a $10,000 grant from the National Marine Sanctuary Foundation. The grant, which was funded by Ernest F. Hollings Ocean Awareness Trust Fund, is one of nine awarded in the country.

The grant will fund the Rivers to Sea Interactives project which consists of two units; one will travel extensively through the Mississippi River watershed, and the second will be permanently installed at the Museum & Aquarium. The Rivers to Sea Interactives project will raise public awareness showcasing how individuals have a direct impact on the health of the Gulf waters no matter how far or close they may live to the coast.

“This interactive display will reach hundreds of thousands of people with the important message that rivers run to the sea,” according to Jerry Enzler, Museum & Aquarium Executive Director. “Through this dynamic exhibit, we can show people that what they do in their daily lives has a direct impact on the health of rivers, but also the health of the ocean.”

National Marine Sanctuary Foundation is a private, non-profit partner to the federally managed National Marine Sanctuary System, and was created to inspire all people to preserve, protect and promote our nationwide network of marine sanctuaries.

The Museum & Aquarium is the lead interpretive center for America's greatest river. The Museum & Aquarium interprets both the cultural and environmental history of the Mississippi with a mission to preserve the history of the river and the river itself. The five acre Museum & Aquarium campus is located on the banks of the Mississippi in Dubuque, Iowa, and is open daily from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Please visit www.rivermuseum.com or call 563-557-9545 for more information.
