National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium Features New Fish
Dubuque, Iowa - May 19, 2009 — The National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium recently welcomed new additions to the William Woodward Discovery Center. Its “Journey to the Deep” aquarium focuses on the Gulf of Mexico region and features several new fish species including Lookdowns, Blue Runners, Porkfish, Barjacks and Cottonwick Grunts, plus two Nurse Sharks as well.
The Mississippi River deposits 3.3 million gallons of water into the Gulf of Mexico every second and affects the ocean waters in which these fish species are found. The Journey to the Deep aquarium shows people a living, tangible example of what could suffer harm from their potential actions here along the Mississippi River. It serves the purpose to help people better understand their roles and the direct impact everyone has in today’s global environment.
The Museum & Aquarium is open daily year-round. Its summer hours are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
